Bank of India credit Officer Recruitment 2026 Apply Now

Application status: CLOSED

Hello friends,

Bank of India put out its Credit Officer notification (Project No. 2026-27/01) on 1 June 2026, with 779 posts in the General Banking Officer stream. Applications ran from 30 June to 20 July 2026, and the window is now shut.

I read all 39 pages of the PDF so you don’t have to. Banks bring out officer notifications again and again, and the rules rarely change much, so treat this as a study guide for the next one.

Bank of India Credit Officer Recruitment 2026: Overview

This was not a fresher’s recruitment. You needed the right degree and work experience for the scale you chose, and the exact requirements sat in Annexure-I of the notification. The bank also did not promise a fixed process. Depending on how many applications came in, it could hold an online exam plus an interview, or just an interview.

About Bank of India

Bank of India was set up in 1906 and is headquartered at Star House, Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mumbai. It is a public sector bank, so the job comes with the usual package: fixed pay scales, a promotion policy and transfers across India.

Officers selected through this notification would join the regular GBO cadre. Later promotions would be decided by the bank’s promotion policy, together with other General Banking Officers of the same scale.

  • Founded in 1906, head office in Mumbai
  • Postings and transfers can be anywhere in India
  • Promotion follows the bank’s policy, not a fixed timeline

What a Credit Officer Does

In simple words, a Credit Officer helps decide whether a loan is safe to give. You look at the borrower’s financial papers, judge whether they can repay, and write that up for approval. Because the loan amounts can be large, the bank wanted people who already had experience.

  • Checking loan applications and financial statements
  • Preparing credit appraisal reports
  • Following RBI rules and the bank’s credit policy

The notification doesn’t list the job duties in detail, so this is the general picture of the role, not an official description.

Vacancy Details

There were 779 vacancies, and 475 of them were unfilled posts carried forward from the earlier recruitment (Project 2025-26/01, dated 1 November 2025). The bank also said the numbers were provisional and could change.

ScaleSCSTOBCEWSGENTotal

MMGS-III1051682261
SMGS-IV62932141
Total1185920580317779

Almost 87% of the posts were in MMGS-II, so that was where most of the competition was.

  • Disability posts inside the total: 8 hearing impaired, 8 visually impaired, 8 orthopedically challenged, 7 intellectual disability
  • The bank could rename the post or designation without notice

Important Dates

All dates have passed. The exam date was never given in the notification. It was to be announced later on the bank’s website.

EventDate
Notification1 June 2026
Applications opened30 June 2026
Last date to apply and pay20 July 2026
Online examTo be advised separately
  • Age and qualification were counted on 1 June 2026
  • The notice warns that the fee date would not change even if registration was extended
  • Heavy website traffic near the last date was a real risk, according to the bank

Pay Scale

Basic pay depended on the scale, and allowances came on top as per bank rules. The notification gives no in-hand salary, so any “monthly salary” figure you see elsewhere is an estimate.

ScaleBasic pay
MMGS-II₹64,820 to ₹93,960
MMGS-III₹85,920 to ₹1,05,280
SMGS-IV₹1,02,300 to ₹1,20,940
  • Pay moves up in fixed steps within each scale
  • Take-home depends on allowances and your posting city
  • Selected candidates also had to pay a security deposit, explained below

Eligibility Criteria

The bank called these “basic criteria” and said meeting them did not guarantee selection. Every claim, whether category, age, degree or experience, needed original documents plus a photocopy.

Qualification and experience: This differed for each scale and was given in Annexure-I. That is the first page I would open next time. Two small rules are easy to miss: where 60% marks were required, SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates applying for reserved posts needed 55%, and percentages were never rounded up, so 59.99% counted as below 60%.

Nationality: You had to be one of the following.

  • A citizen of India
  • A subject of Nepal or Bhutan
  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 to settle permanently
  • A person of Indian origin who migrated from countries like Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam

The last three groups needed a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India. Also, anyone who had earlier held the same post in Bank of India was not eligible.

Age Limit

Age was counted on 1 June 2026, and the range depended on your scale. The maximum age below applied to General and EWS candidates, and the others got relaxation on top.

ScaleMinimumMaximum
MMGS-II2532
MMGS-III2838
SMGS-IV3245
  • SC/ST: 5 years, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
  • Persons with benchmark disabilities: 10 years
  • Ex-Servicemen and persons affected by the 1984 riots: 5 years
  • SC/ST/OBC relaxation could be combined with only one of the other categories, not all of them

There is no reservation for ex-servicemen in the officers’ cadre, so they get age relaxation only.

Selection Process

The notification said selection would be through an online test and/or an interview, depending on the number of eligible applicants. So the safe plan was to prepare for both.

  1. Scrutiny of applications
  2. Online exam (if held)
  3. Personal interview
  4. Final merit list

Scrutiny: Shortlisting was done only from the documents you uploaded at registration. The bank said no requests to send documents later would be entertained. A missing certificate could end your application at this stage.

Online exam: There were 125 questions for 125 marks in a combined 120 minutes. The English test was only qualifying, and your merit came from Professional Knowledge.

TestQuestionsMarks
English Language2525
Professional Knowledge100100
  • Minimum qualifying marks: 35% in each test for General/EWS, and 5% less for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD in reserved posts
  • Each wrong answer costs one-fourth of the marks, and blank answers carry no penalty
  • Everything except English was available in English and Hindi

Interview and final merit: Candidates were to be called in the ratio of 1:3 to the vacancies. The interview carries 100 marks, and the minimum is 50% for General/EWS and 45% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD.

  • If both are held, the merit is 70% Professional Knowledge and 30% interview
  • If there is no exam, the merit is based on the interview alone
  • Tie-breaker with both stages: higher online exam marks first, then the older candidate

Application Fee

The fee was lower for reserved and disability categories, and it was non-refundable for everyone. You paid online, by card, net banking, wallet, QR or UPI, and the transaction charges were yours.

CategoryFee (with GST)
SC/ST/PwBD₹175 (intimation charges only)
General and others₹850
  • Don’t press back or refresh after paying, or you may be charged twice
  • If no e-receipt is generated, the payment failed and you must try again
  • DD, cheque and money orders were not accepted

Documents Required

Documents were needed twice: uploads for the online form, then originals at the interview. The system would not let you go ahead if the photo or signature was outside the limits.

DocumentFormat
Photograph (4.5 x 3.5 cm)20 to 50 KB, colour, light background
Signature10 to 20 KB, not in capital letters
Left thumb impression20 to 50 KB, JPG/JPEG
Handwritten declaration50 to 100 KB, English, your own handwriting
  • A live photo had to be captured by webcam or phone during the application
  • A declaration in capital letters, or written by someone else, made the application invalid
  • Your name had to match your certificates and ID exactly

At the interview, you brought originals and photocopies of the call letter, application printout, date of birth proof, photo ID, mark sheets, experience certificates and category certificates.

  • Ration Card and Learner’s Driving Licence were not accepted as ID
  • OBC non-creamy layer certificates had to be issued on or after 1 April 2026
  • EWS certificates were based on family income below ₹8 lakh for FY 2025-26
  • Employees of government, PSUs and nationalised banks needed a No Objection Certificate, or their candidature would be cancelled

The Security Deposit Most People Miss

This is the point I would read twice. Selected candidates must deposit ₹2,00,000 in MMGS-II and ₹3,00,000 in MMGS-III and SMGS-IV. The money is refundable after 3 years of satisfactory service, but it is forfeited if you leave the bank before that.

Think about it before applying. If you might switch jobs within three years, that is a big amount to risk.

  • Appointment also depends on being declared medically fit
  • The bank may cancel any post at any stage without giving a reason
  • Giving wrong information can get you disqualified from all future bank recruitment

Exam Centres

The notification listed many centres, including Hyderabad, Vijayawada/Guntur and Visakhapatnam for Telugu-speaking candidates. Others included Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Kolkata.

  • No change of centre was allowed after applying
  • The bank could cancel a centre or give you a different one

How to Apply (When the Portal Was Open)

You registered on the Bank of India website, filled in the form, uploaded the documents and paid the fee. After submission you could not edit anything, so the preview step mattered a lot.

  • Go to www.bankofindia.bank.in, click “Career” and open the Credit Officer notice
  • Register with your name, email and mobile number to get a provisional registration number and password
  • Fill in the form, upload the photo, signature, thumb impression, declaration and experience documents
  • Preview, click “Complete Registration” and pay online
  • Print the form and e-receipt, but don’t send them to the bank

Preparation Tips

Professional Knowledge carried all the merit marks, so most of your time belongs there. English is qualifying, but fail it and nothing else counts.

  • Revise credit appraisal, loan types, NPAs, financial statements and RBI guidelines
  • Keep up with banking news
  • Practise English comprehension and grammar
  • Take timed mocks, and skip questions you are unsure about, because of negative marking

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Most applications are lost on small things that can’t be fixed after submission.

  • Not checking Annexure-I for your scale before applying
  • Signature or declaration in capital letters, or a blurry photo
  • A name spelt differently from your certificates
  • Applying as OBC when you are in the creamy layer. In that case you must apply as General

Who Should Consider a Recruitment Like This

It suits people already working in banking or finance who want an officer-level post. It is not for freshers, and it is not for someone who cannot move cities or cannot afford the deposit.

  • Experienced bankers aiming for officer roles
  • People interested in lending and credit work
  • Candidates ready for transfers across India

Important Links

Use only the official Bank of India website for notifications and call letters. The bank says it is not responsible for applications made through unauthorised persons.

The application window closed on 20 July 2026.

FAQs

How many vacancies were there? 779: 677 in MMGS-II, 61 in MMGS-III and 41 in SMGS-IV.

Could freshers apply? No. The post needed the qualification and experience for the scale, as given in Annexure-I.

Was the online exam compulsory? Not necessarily. The bank could select through the interview alone.

Is there negative marking? Yes, one-fourth of the marks for each wrong answer.

What was the security deposit? ₹2 lakh for MMGS-II and ₹3 lakh for MMGS-III and SMGS-IV.

Can I still apply? No. The last date was 20 July 2026.

Conclusion

The Credit Officer recruitment is closed, but it shows how the next one will probably work. Check Annexure-I first, keep your documents ready, and be prepared for both an exam and an interview. And think about the security deposit before you apply, not after you are selected.

Good luck, friends!
