No. According to the official notification, applications were open from June 30, 2026 to July 29, 2026 at 11:59 PM. That deadline has passed. Once a government recruitment deadline closes, it closes completely. There is no reopening, no extensions for individual candidates, and no way to submit after the deadline. This is final.
However, here is the good news. Indian Railways conduct regular recruitment for technical positions, usually every 6-12 months. The Railway Recruitment Boards have multiple zones across India, and they constantly need to fill Technician positions. So if you missed this recruitment, you will get another chance soon. The eligibility criteria, job requirements, and selection process tend to follow similar patterns across recruitments, so everything you learn from this guide will help you prepare for the next opening.

The announcement covered multiple technical departments. This means the Railways announced Technician positions across different specializations. For example, there were Technician positions for Electrical work, Mechanical work, Signal and Telecommunication, Workshop maintenance, Carriage and Wagon repair, Diesel engines, and many other technical areas. If you have an ITI qualification in any of these trades, you could apply for the corresponding Technician position.

WHO CAN APPLY?
The eligibility for this recruitment was specific. Let me explain each requirement clearly so you understand if you qualify.
Educational Qualification: The basic requirement was that you must have passed Matriculation, which means Class 10 or SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate). This is your basic educational qualification. But there is more – you must also have completed ITI (Industrial Training Institute) in a relevant trade. Some candidates also qualified if they had completed Course Completed Act Apprenticeship (CCAA), which is similar to ITI training.
The key point is that your ITI trade must match the Technician position you are applying for. If you have an ITI qualification in Electrical work, you can apply for Technician Electrical positions. If you have Mechanical training, you apply for Mechanical positions. You cannot apply for a position in a trade you are not trained in. The Railways need qualified people, not just anyone with an ITI certificate.
Age Requirement: The recruitment was for candidates aged 18 to 30 years. Your age would be calculated as on July 1, 2026, which was the cut-off date for that recruitment. If you were born before January 2, 1996, you would be over 30 and ineligible. If you were born after January 1, 2008, you would be under 18 and ineligible.
However, if you belong to certain categories, you could get age relaxation. Candidates from Scheduled Caste (SC) or Scheduled Tribe (ST) backgrounds could get up to 5 years extra. Candidates from Other Backward Classes (OBC) could get up to 3 years extra. Ex-Servicemen could also get relaxation based on their military service. People with benchmark disabilities could get relaxation up to a certain age. This relaxation is important because it makes the job accessible to more people.
Nationality Requirement: You must be an Indian citizen. The notification also allowed citizens of Nepal and Bhutan, and persons of Indian origin who have migrated from certain countries with the intention of settling in India permanently.
Medical Fitness: This is something many candidates overlook. Railways have strict medical standards because Technicians work with potentially dangerous equipment. You need to be medically fit according to Railway standards. Different positions have different medical categories. For example, some positions might require you to have normal color vision, while others might be more flexible. The starting basic pay for a Technician Grade III was ₹19,900 per month under Pay Level 2 of the 7th Central Pay Commission. Now, this is the basic pay – it is not the total money you receive in your account every month.
On top of the basic pay, you receive several allowances. The Dearness Allowance (DA), which currently stands at a significant percentage of basic pay, increases every few months to keep up with inflation. You get House Rent Allowance (HRA) based on your posting location, typically 8 percent to 15 percent of basic pay in major cities and less in smaller towns. Transport Allowance helps cover your travel costs. Depending on your location, you might also get City Compensatory Allowance in expensive cities.
So if your basic pay is ₹19,900, with DA around 42 percent, you could get roughly ₹8,400 extra. With HRA, you might get another ₹2,000-3,000. With other allowances, your actual monthly earning could be somewhere around ₹33,000-38,000 depending on where you are posted. Plus, you get medical facilities for you and your family, which saves you thousands every year.
Beyond salary, the benefits are substantial. You get pension after retirement, which most private sector jobs do not offer anymore. You receive leave benefits including annual leave and leave travel concession for vacation. You work for a secure, permanent government organization with transparent promotion policies.
